Not very long ago, there were no major theme parks in Orlando. Then, along came Walt Disney -- and Orlando was changed forever. In 1971, Disney opened his world famous Magic Kingdom. Since then, Orlando has become theme park central.
Now, thirty-some years later, Orlando boasts many theme park four different Disney parks: Epcot, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, and -- still going strong -- the Magic Kingdom.
The Walt Disney World Resort has ballooned into an immense complex that includes numerous hotels, golf courses, restaurants, two water parks (Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach) and several separate resorts. Not only has the size of the complex grown enormously; its attendance has, too. Families from around the world flock to Orlando each year to spend a few magical days at this popular Orlando attraction, called DISNEYWORLD. For more information about the parks at Disney World, call (407) 828-3255 or go to www.disneyworld@disney.go.com.

Sea World draws people who wish to immerse themselves in the natural world of plants and animals. The park’s beautiful pathways encourage leisurely strolls from one attraction to another. One such attraction is the famous team of Clydesdale horses that pulls the Budweiser Beer wagon in television commercials. Other popular attractions include the Penguin Encounter and Terrors of the Deep. Across the park in Shamu Stadium, killer whales create huge splashes to the delight of dripping-wet children standing as near the water tank as they can get. Sea lions, walruses, dolphins and other water creatures perform amazing feats for cheering audiences. One last thing before leaving the park -- a ride on the fearsome, floorless Kracken roller coaster -- rightly named for a horrible, mythical sea monster. The thrills of riding the gravity-defying Kracken can only be equaled by
the water ride chills of the Journey to Atlantis. For more information, go to www.seaworldorlando.com.

Wet ‘n Wild is a world-class water park, one of Orlando’s major attractions. The rides and slides at this park located on the famous International Drive (I-Drive) are large, colorful, and breath-taking. The Bubba Tub terrorizes its occupants with a 5-story drop into a river of water, while guests of the Black Hole are plunged through 500 feet of twisting dark tunnels before their exciting water ride is over. In addition to going on many other water rides, kids can swim in a wave pool, shoot the rapids, or ease on down the Lazy River in an over-sized tire tube. Picnic tables and refreshment stands help make Sea World an exciting and enjoyable place for the whole family to spend the day.

A short drive from Orlando is an attraction of major interest not only to visitors from the states but also to travelers from abroad. This site of world-wide interest is the Kennedy Space Center on Florida’s east coast between Titusville and Cocoa Beach, Florida. The Atlantic coast beaches that dot the shoreline north and south of the Space Center draw many sunbathers, surfers, and saltwater fishermen. The beaches along the Gulf Coast to the west of Orlando provide the similar sand and surf opportunities as well as guided fishing at the Saltwater Flats.
