The Drive to Make a Living Fishing

It all started one day on a little aluminum john boat on the Upper Potomac river in Maryland. Where my dad took me fishing, it was my first ever time. Little me stood eagerly waiting with a nightcrawler. Not knowing what I was going to catch and that my life was about to be changed forever. After a little wait my line tugged, not knowing what it was I began to reel and hooked into the fish. It pulled so hard it began to take the rod out of my hands and my dad rushed over to help me. With […]

Lake Toho May Fishing Report

The bass fishing is much different now than is was last year at this time on Lake Toho. That’s because the way the lake is being managed is far different from last year. Because of the issues down on the big O (Okeechobee) the FWC halted all spray operations for the state in late October. They conducted public meetings with the intention of finding out how the public wanted the lakes to be managed. What they found out was that the people wanted the hydrilla to be mostly left in the lakes. Instead of spraying it with chemicals and constantly […]

A Day for the Record Books

This year the spring bass fishing here on Lake Toho has been absolutely phenomenal. Because of the lower than average water levels a majority of the bass have congregated on outside grass edges and offshore vegetation and brushpiles in massive schools. Which has lead to some of the best fishing this lake has ever seen. Whether it’s been a live bait trip or artificials we have had some fantastic day’s these past 2 months. But one trip that our Captain Dumas did just two day’s ago with 3 clients was extra special. They all went out expecting it to be […]

Orlando Fishing, Orlando’s True Main Attraction

While Disney, Universal, and Orlando’s many other attractions are the main focus for most people who make the trip to Central Florida. Orlando’s natural attractions, specifically Orlando’s fishing is often overlooked. But for those who step onto a boat with an Orlando fishing guide the event quickly becomes the highlight of there trip. While Disney and Universal are fun some have realized that Orlando’s fishing is its true main attraction. While Orlando houses many lakes, Lake Tohopekaliga, or Lake Toho for short is the creme of the crop. Lake Toho is home to some of the best bass fishing in […]

Not All Cold Fronts Are Bad?

Not all cold fronts are bad? Yup, that’s right. I’ve seen it before and this latest cold front proves it again that some cold fronts actually help the fishing. This latest cold front is another example. The week before the front we had a slight lull in the fishing. The days prior to the front the fishing increased like normal. But it was after the front came through that the unexpected happened. The fishing went lights out and all of our guides began hoisting in multiple giant Toho bass each day (collage above). A 12 pound 9 ounce behemoth was […]

Lake Toho hydrilla

A little secret for winter bass in the south

While the lakes in the north may be frozen over at this time of year, the fishing in the south is in full throttle. There’s a little secret that may not be exploitable on all lakes but on the ones that do have it, you can find yourself a honey hole. That secret is hydrilla, alive and green hydrilla to be exact. Live vegetation at this time of year can be very hard to find and many anglers ignore searching for it. Most anglers will be looking for deep drop-offs or searching for spawning fish if they’re in Florida. But […]

Good Fishing Even After a Cold Front

On today’s Lake Toho bass fishing adventure the fishing was hot and heavy. We had a cold front pass thru the area the night before and even though we were fishing right after this cold front we still caught the heck out of fish for the first hour and a half! We couldn’t keep more than 2 rods in the water! The area that we were fishing is a spawning flat and the fish are beginning to load up in these areas. The bass fishing on Toho should get better and better as we move further into the spawning period. […]

Florida bass fishing report on Toho

Florida bass fishing on Lake Toho has been fast and furious. Today I had a client that was here in Central Florida on vacation with his family from England. He fished a 4 hour guide trip with us and caught over 15 bass by 9:30 am and probably had close to 30 bites. His name was Allen and he fished by himself so he was one busy bass fisherman. A couple of times he had two bass on at the same time! Before he could get one bass in the net, another was on the other rod. We even caught […]

Big Florida bass on Lake Toho with artificial lures

West Lake Toho located in the small town of Kissimmee, just minutes from Disney world here in Central Florida is typically the top trophy bass lake in the state, and big wild Shiners are always the best way to catch these giant Florida bass. The fall season is a unique and special time for largemouth bass on Toho, there is a big increase of activity and the reason behind this is water temperatures are dropping to prime levels for Florida bass along with there instincts telling them to feed up for winter. Also during the summer months the U.S Corps […]
