Giant Lake Toho bass

Lake Toho Spring Fishing Report

Spring bass fishing on Lake Toho here in Central Florida is one of the most productive times for catching good numbers of bass as well as the trophy bass of a lifetime. The reliability of bass fishing on Lake Toho at this time of year is due mainly to the weather becoming very stable and in turn the bass fishing is also very stable and productive at this time of year.   AJ’s Bass Guides has been in operation since 1970 and holds the lake record of 16 pounds 10 ounces which was caught by Ed Chancy the founder of […]

Lake Toho trophy bass

May Lake Toho Fishing report

This has been our BEST year we’ve ever had catching trophy sized bass on Lake Toho so far and it hasn’t let up. The lake continues to produce 7+ pound bass continuously and the water quality seems to be at the best its ever been with more natural grass like shrimp grass and pepper grass growing than ever before. We’ve been consistently putting 20+ fish in the boat on our charters with some days catching over 40! While shiners have been the best bite, this is also the best time of year for artificials, when 25-30 pound bags are caught […]

10 pound lake toho bass

May Lake Toho Fishing Report

This has been one of the best years we’ve had fishing Lake Toho. We caught an absolute boat load of 8-12 pound bass this winter and it just keeps continuing. The core of engineers has lowered the lake to it’s low pool (which they do every year at this time to simulate the dry season) but with all the offshore hydrilla that is in the lake the fish have moved out into it and the bite has remained strong. And that’s where they’re at right now, the summer offshore bite is in full effect and the big girls are holed […]

Lake Toho Bass

April Lake Toho Fishing Report

Finally its April, one of my favorite months to fish Lake Toho. The bass are aggressively feeding up after spawning in the winter and the weathers consistent. Which makes the bite very consistent also. And that is what’s going on right now on all of the offshore grass patches on the lake. We’re consistently catching good fish! We’re averaging around 20-30 fish on a 4-5 hour trip. There’s so much offshore grass for these bass to get on right now, it’s awesome, and it pretty much all has fish on it. Our guides are scattered all over the lake fishing […]

The 7 best Florida bass lures

Here we go, the 7 best Florida bass lures. This was a tough one to come up with because there are so many good lures out there but the 7 that I’ve chosen are consistently better producers of giant Florida bass than any other lures that I’ve found. This selection of bass fishing lures will cover just about anything that you’ll come across in Florida. I’ve also got another blog on the 5 best topwater lures for fishing Florida. If you’re interested, you can check that out here. Whether or not an individual lure on the list will work for […]

Lake Toho May Fishing Report

The bass fishing is much different now than is was last year at this time on Lake Toho. That’s because the way the lake is being managed is far different from last year. Because of the issues down on the big O (Okeechobee) the FWC halted all spray operations for the state in late October. They conducted public meetings with the intention of finding out how the public wanted the lakes to be managed. What they found out was that the people wanted the hydrilla to be mostly left in the lakes. Instead of spraying it with chemicals and constantly […]

A Day for the Record Books

This year the spring bass fishing here on Lake Toho has been absolutely phenomenal. Because of the lower than average water levels a majority of the bass have congregated on outside grass edges and offshore vegetation and brushpiles in massive schools. Which has lead to some of the best fishing this lake has ever seen. Whether it’s been a live bait trip or artificials we have had some fantastic day’s these past 2 months. But one trip that our Captain Dumas did just two day’s ago with 3 clients was extra special. They all went out expecting it to be […]

Florida spring time bass

Spring Fishing Report

The Florida bass fishing here on West Lake Tohopekaliga has been phenomenal this spring. Because of restoration work that is being done on the Kissimmee River South of Lake Toho water levels are lower than usual. These conditions have forced Lake Toho bass to the outside edges of the maidencane grass fields. This has caused bass to group up in large concentrations in boat cuts and pockets on the outside edge of the grass field. There is also an open-water aspect to the bass fishing on Lake Toho this year. With great numbers of fish staging over top of Eel […]
