The Drive to Make a Living Fishing

It all started one day on a little aluminum john boat on the Upper Potomac river in Maryland. Where my dad took me fishing, it was my first ever time. Little me stood eagerly waiting with a nightcrawler. Not knowing what I was going to catch and that my life was about to be changed forever. After a little wait my line tugged, not knowing what it was I began to reel and hooked into the fish. It pulled so hard it began to take the rod out of my hands and my dad rushed over to help me. With […]

October Lake Toho Fishing Report

It’s the Fall and we’re in a transition period here in Orlando Florida. The day’s are getting cooler and as always at this time of year the FWC (Florida Wildlife Commision) has begun to spray and kill off the hydrilla in Lake Toho. Now you may be wondering why would they do this? Well it’s not without good reason. Hydrilla in Lake Toho during the summer here in Florida grows extremely fast. Up to 2 inches a day in some cases. While it is great for the fishing it tends to overrun portions of the lake, like bass spawning flats […]

A little secret for winter bass in the south

While the lakes in the north may be frozen over at this time of year, the fishing in the south is in full throttle. There’s a little secret that may not be exploitable on all lakes but on the ones that do have it, you can find yourself a honey hole. That secret is hydrilla, alive and green hydrilla to be exact. Live vegetation at this time of year can be very hard to find and many anglers ignore searching for it. Most anglers will be looking for deep drop-offs or searching for spawning fish if they’re in Florida. But […]

Lake Toho in the fall

Choice of Bait: During the fall months: We fish the hydrilla and maiden-cane grass fields in 3 to 6 feet of water. Artificial lures and wild shiners both work well at this time of the year. But, if it’s lunker bass you’re after, wild shiners produce the really big ones. This doesn’t mean that you can’t catch trophy bass on artificial lures – you can – just not as frequently as with shiners. However, if fishing with artificials is your choice, it’s best to use only weed less baits: plastic worms, soft-jerk baits, spoons, and top water lures because the […]
