How Weather Affects Fishing

Old timers usually have a few choice things to say about the best times to fish. Weather plays a big role in whether the fishing will be good on a given day. Weather Conditions While some weather patterns spell good fortune, other are bad omens for anglers. Fronts As cold fronts move in, they bring higher atmospheric pressure. With high pressure comes sluggish fish who’ll be disinterested in biting. Generally, fish will be sluggish for a few days after a storm moves out. Conversely, warm fronts bring lower pressure and storms, and that means good fishing. Low-pressure fronts will cause […]

Florida bass fishing report on Toho

Florida bass fishing on Lake Toho has been fast and furious. Today I had a client that was here in Central Florida on vacation with his family from England. He fished a 4 hour guide trip with us and caught over 15 bass by 9:30 am and probably had close to 30 bites. His name was Allen and he fished by himself so he was one busy bass fisherman. A couple of times he had two bass on at the same time! Before he could get one bass in the net, another was on the other rod. We even caught […]

Bass fishing in Florida after a hurricane

With hurricane Matthew on the way I’m sure many people are wondering how it affects the bass fishing afterwards and how it affects the lakes in the big picture. All of the Kissimmee grass, bulrush, and various other types of grass and reeds fields that inhabit the lakes will be cleaned out with the heavy winds. This will allow for those plants to grow greener and fuller than usual which is great for the long run. But along with cleaning up the grass fields the wind will also stir up silt and gunk off the bottom muddying up the water. […]

Fall 2015 Tip of the Year

I have just developed a fishing technique that nobody knows about for catching Florida large mouth bass. Bass can’t resist this technique. It’s a wild shiner method for catching bass that is out of the box and takes bass fishing to a new level that we have all dreamed about. This is without a doubt the most exciting way to catch bass on wild shiners that has ever been conceived. The action is hot fast and furious. The bass seem to hit our shiners almost nonstop until we run out of bait. I can’t tell you what the technique is, for […]

Lake Toho in the fall

Choice of Bait: During the fall months: We fish the hydrilla and maiden-cane grass fields in 3 to 6 feet of water. Artificial lures and wild shiners both work well at this time of the year. But, if it’s lunker bass you’re after, wild shiners produce the really big ones. This doesn’t mean that you can’t catch trophy bass on artificial lures – you can – just not as frequently as with shiners. However, if fishing with artificials is your choice, it’s best to use only weed less baits: plastic worms, soft-jerk baits, spoons, and top water lures because the […]
